Ramadan is the month of self-improvement. Almost all Muslims get benefits from it, while few are those who treat it like any other month. If you are from those who did whatever they wanted, Allah gives you a chance again to improve yourself.
Imagine a guest arriving at our home, what do we do? We clean our home, prepare food, and make all necessary arrangements that make our guests happy.
Similarly, the sacred month (Ramadan) brings countless blessings, not taken from us, but only gives many spiritual benefits. If we haven’t prepared for Ramadan, Imagine how low our faith would be.
At this time in 2025 ramadan, few days left and we should follow the sunnah of our beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh and his companions in the month of Shaban. What we should do now? in this article, I give you 7 ways to prepare yourself.

1. When You Pray to Reach Ramadan
Those who know the importance of Ramadan make dua before Ramadan because they understand that many people who were present last Ramadan may not be present in this upcoming holy month.
The companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) knew more than us; that’s why they prayed for six months to reach Ramadan, and after Ramadan passed, they prayed for six months that Allah would accept their deeds.
This means they spent 12 months striving to please their Lord with the help of Ramadan because it is a month of blessings, forgiveness of sins, and many more advantages that cannot be found in other months.
This is the beauty of Ramadan the gates of Heaven are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and Shaitan is chained in this month. They lose the power to influence our emotions and minds.
2. When You Increase Your Recitation of the Quran
Ramadan is the month of the Quran, and this is the month the Quran was revealed. Read 1 chapter daily, you can read it within 30 minutes easily. If that is difficult, read one ruku. If even that feels challenging, then read at least one ayat with its translation and try to understand its meaning. The key is to read it daily with consistency.
Read it loudly in the morning, before ramadan, if you doing it now, this means you well prepared for the sacred month.
Additionally, our recitation should be beautiful, following the complete Tajweed rules. Practice daily and listen to the best Quran recitations for inspiration. If you are a Quran teacher, teach it to those who lack knowledge, remembering that the best person is the one who learns and then teaches others.
3. When You Fast in Sha’ban
There are many articles on the benefits of fasting on our health and more than health, it makes us spiritually strong. This is the best way to prepare yourself by fasting in shaban. There are many ahadith in which the narrators mention that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) fasted in Sha’ban more than in any other month after Ramadan.
You can fast on Mondays and Thursdays, also Ayyam al-Beed (the 13th, 14th, and 15th of the lunar month), or follow the best fasting practice like Prophet Dawood (AS), who fasted every other (2nd) day (intermittent fasting).
Track your fasting using this great tool!
Fasting teaches patience, self-control, and discipline. Even when we have the opportunity to eat or commit sins, the fear of Allah keeps us from doing so. It is a powerful spiritual and physical exercise that strengthens both the mind and body.
4. When You Seek Islamic Knowledge
Anybody on earth cannot claim I know everything even if that person has a thousand years of life. Every day we should learn something new and learning Islamic knowledge the most will improve our lives and the hereafter. Before ramadan, learning about fasting, and prayer (principles) before Ramadan is essential.
And before ramadan, we all should read this dua daily after the fajar prayer that has everything:
Allahumma inni asaluka ilman naafian, wa rizqan tayyiban, waamalan mutaqabbalan.
(O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.)
5. When You Help the Needy
It is the sunnah that prophet Muhammad pbuh helps needy people more in ramadan and before ramadan. Making a sadaqah box in your house gives you a lot of benefits:
Allah also reminds us of the reward of charity:
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah will be rewarded in multiples. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)
6. When You Engage in More Dhikr and Worship
Make it a habit to do dhikr throughout the day. When you enter your house, say a dua; in the morning and evening, engage in dhikr; and say Astaghfirullah 100 times a day. This brings many benefits, such as the forgiveness of sins, increased wealth, and a closer connection to Allah.
7. When You Avoid Distractions and Bad Habits
Nowadays, it’s very hard to stay away from mobile devices because everything is online, but it’s not impossible. The best approach is to create a daily timetable. However, many people still spend this blessed month scrolling on social media and wasting their time.
To break this bad habit, avoid unnecessary scrolling on your phone. This will help you overcome it before Ramadan and make better use of your time.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
Whoever does not give up false speech and evil deeds while fasting, Allah does not need him to leave his food and drink. (Bukhari, 1903)
Allah also commands us:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (Surah An-Nur 24:31)
A dua to seek strength against distractions:
Ya muqallibal-qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinik.
(O Turner of hearts, make my heart steadfast upon Your religion.)
