Often people understand that Muslim and Islam are the same terms but there is a minor difference between Muslims and islam.
Muslim and Islam are not the same but can be taken as the same terms such that both are related to each other.
MUSLIM: Muslim is not the term.It is the behavior of submission to Allah SWT and obedience.
هُوَ سَمّٰٮكُمُ الۡمُسۡلِمِيۡنَ ۙAllah named you "Muslims"Surah Hajj ;Ayah 78
On the other hand
Islam: Islam is a religion that is granted by Allah to all people in the world.
اِنَّ الدِّيۡنَ عِنۡدَ اللّٰهِ الۡاِسۡلَامُ ۗThe Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will)Surah Al-imran; Ayah 19
In short "Islam is the religion and Muslims are people who follow Islam".
